Driver’s Eligibility
All radio control car-racing hobbyists are welcome to join the challenge. Wether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned racing hobbyist we invite you to participate in the Automodex RC Challenge. Fun and fair competitive racing is our top priority. We have a class for everyone depending on your budget and your need for competitive racing. If a driver is dominating or hindering a lower class, they will be asked to move to another class. Look at the classes below to see which class best suites you.
General Rules Applying to All Vehicles
- Any manufacturer’s electronic speed control, radio equipment, servo, servo saver, antenna, antenna mount, pinion and spur gears, ball bearing, tire inserts, motor fan, motor heat sink are allowed in all classes.
- 2.4 GHz, 27 MHz or 75 MHz radio system must be used. A minimum of 2 frequencies is required when using 27 MHz and 75 MHz radios.
- ROAR approved NiCd and NiMh batteries should be used.
- Hard cased LIPO batteries are legal for all classes.
- Any motor connector or direct hard wiring to the motor is allowed.
- Any battery connector or direct hard wiring to the battery is allowed.
- The use of any manufacturer’s cooling fan is legal. However, the fan must be no larger than 1.5 in. by 1.5 in. and must run off of the receiver. It is ILLEGAL to have a secondary battery to power the fan. No more than 2 fans in a vehicle. This includes the speed control fan.
- If a driver finds a loophole within the rules, the exploitation will be deemed illegal at the discretion of the race committee.
Mini-Novice
- Any 1:10th scale 2WD Mini-sized chassis car that uses the 60D size tire size or smaller.
- Chassis must be built as per instruction manual, RTR cars are allowed.
- No chassis lightening or alterations to the chassis allowed.
- Any mini-sized body shell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s 60D tires and wheels allowed.
- Tire inserts allowed.
- Stuffing tires with inserts to create a “ballooned” tire is not legal. Tire diameter limit will be limited to 60mm.
- Ball bearings allowed.
- Stock Silvercan motors only.
- The use of maximum pinion gear size is allowed.
- Speed gear set available for certain cars is not allowed. I.E. 3racing speed gear set for M03.
- Any plastic or aluminium hop-up damper may be used.
- Any short or regular size hop-up spring may be used.
- 7.4 volt Lipo cells may be used. All Lipo cells must be in a hard case.
- Drilling extra vent holes to the wheels is not allowed.
- All M-chassis cars must meet a minimum weight of 1250 grams.
- Motor RPM limits will be imposed to match out of the box performance. RPM numbers TBD.
Mini-Outlaw
- Any 1:10th scale 2WD or 4WD Mini-sized chassis car that uses the 60D size tire size or smaller.
- Any manufacturer’s Chassis hop-ups are allowed.
- Any mini-sized body shell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s 60D tires and wheels allowed.
- Tire inserts allowed.
- Stuffing tires with inserts to create a “ballooned” tire is not legal. Tire diameter limit will be limited to 60mm.
- Ball bearings allowed.
- 19 Turn Brushed or 10.5 Brushless motor allowed with 6 cell or 7.4 volt Lipo.
- The use of maximum pinion gear size allowed.
- Speed gear set allowed.
- Any plastic or hop-up damper may be used.
- Any short or regular size spring may be used.
- 7.4 Volt Lipo cells may be used. All Lipo cells must be in a hard case.
- Drilling extra vent holes to the wheels is not allowed.
- All M-chassis cars must meet a minimum weight of 1250 grams.
GT-Novice
- Any 1:10th scale 4WD tub chassis kits. Carbon plate double deck cars are not permitted in this class.
- Chassis must be built as per instruction manual, RTR cars are allowed.
- No chassis lightening or alterations to the chassis allowed.
- Any 190mm body shell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s 24mm tires and wheels allowed.
- Tire inserts allowed.
- Ball bearings allowed.
- Stock Silvercan motors only.
- The use of maximum pinion gear size is allowed.
- Any plastic or aluminium hop-up damper may be used.
- Any short or regular size hop-up spring may be used.
- 7.4 volt Lipo cells may be used. All Lipo cells must be in a hard case.
- Drilling extra vent holes to the wheels is not allowed.
- All GT cars must meet a minimum weight of 1400 grams.
- Changing the camber-link positions on the car other than the way it was intended is not allowed.
GT-Outlaw
- Any 4WD tub chassis kits and Carbon plate double deck cars are permitted in this class.
- Chassis must be built as per instruction manual, RTR cars are allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s Chassis hop-ups allowed.
- Any 190mm body shell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s 24mm tires and wheels allowed.
- Tire inserts allowed.
- Ball bearings allowed.
- 19 Turn Brushed or 10.5 Brushless motor allowed with 6 cell or 7.4 volt Lipo.
- The use of maximum pinion gear size is allowed.
- Any plastic or aluminium hop-up damper may be used.

Nitro-Novice

- Chassis must be built as per instruction manual, RTR cars are allowed.
- No chassis lightening or alterations to the chassis allowed.
- Any 190mm body shell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s foam or rubber tires allowed.
Nitro-Outlaw
- Any 1:10th scale 4WD chassis with modified engine.
- Any manufacturer’s hop-ups allowed.
- Any 190mm bodyshell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s foam or rubber tires allowed.
Nitro-8th Scale Buggy
- Any 1:8th scale 4wd Buggy chassis.
- Engine size should be limited to only .21 size.
- Any manufacturer’s tires and inserts allowed.
Nitro-8th Scale Truggy
- Any 1:8th scale 4wd Truggy chassis.
- Engine size should be from .21 size. to .28 size only.
- Any manufacturer’s tires and inserts allowed.
EP Drifting
- Any 1:10th scale 4wd chassis are permitted. R.T.R. chassis is allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s hop-ups allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s Drift tires allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s 190mm bodyshell allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s brushed or brushless motor allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s Ni-cd,Ni-mh or hardcase Lipo battery allowed.
- Any combinations of gearing allowed.
- Any manufacturer’s D-Box or Gyro is not permitted.
Race Format for Electric and Nitro On-Road
- There must be at least 5 participants in each respective class for the class to be run.
- All races are 5 minutes in duration. Some classes will have 8 minute A mains.
- There will be two qualifying heats to determine the Main set-up order.
- The qualifying format will be left to the discretion of the race committee.
- There will always be two rounds of qualifying followed by the main events.
- All mains will be heads up starts.
Race Format for Nitro Off-Road
There will be 3 Leg + 1 Championship race.
Day 1-3; 1st, 2nd and 3rd Leg will have heats (race) of 10 mins. For each class. Linear starting grid (no qualifying round) will be applied for the first 3 Leg. Winners of each heat who accumulate the most number of Laps will then determine the winner for each Leg (day).
Day 4; Championship Race will have heats of 20 mins. For both stock and modified class, this time staggered starting grid applies, positions for the grid of the first heat is determined by the driver who gets the most number of laps for the first 3 Legs. The winners of the first heat will then determine the grid positions on the succeeding heats based on Laps accumulated. Race Champion will be based on the driver who gets the most number of Laps in the Final race (not for the 4 day race). |
